After 20 years in the computer industry, Helena decided to pursue her long-standing interest in healing. She became licensed in massage therapy and specialized her bodywork in medical treatment for accident and sport injuries. Helena also obtained her certification in craniosacral therapy.
However, following her desire to more effectively and holistically treat the emotional effects of trauma, she completed a Masters of Arts in Psychology: Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University, Seattle.The completion of the degree required a one-year internship, which Helena completed by counseling at Sound Mental Health (SMH) working with adult outpatients that primarily experienced severe abuse. Currently, Helena continues to volunteer at SMH in addition to having her own private practice.
In 2001, Helena also completed a 3-year course equivalent to a MBA in Leadership and Communication from Authentic Leadership based in Atlanta, and adds this knowledge base frequently in her work as a mental health counselor.
In order to further specialize her counseling work in trauma due to physical, sexual or child abuse, Helena completed her training and required supervision hours with the renowned EMDR Institute to become an EMDR Therapist and now primarily uses EMDR Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her work.
In 2008, to further support and educate clients in self exploration, Helena also completed training to teach the Enneagram personality style model offered by the Enneagram Institute.
In addition to the joys of being a mom, Helena is a licensed pilot and avid traveler who enjoys golf, skiing, day hikes, and attendiing the arts.
